What is a Reconditioned IBC?

A reconditioned (or “rebottled”) IBC tote features a brand-new HDPE inner bottle installed inside a cleaned, inspected, and restored steel cage. The cage is straightened, sandblasted if necessary, and verified for structural integrity. All valves, gaskets, and lids are replaced with new components. The result is a container that performs like new but costs 40-60% less.

This is the most environmentally responsible option for businesses that need a clean, certified container but don't require a completely new unit. The steel cage is the most durable and energy-intensive component of an IBC tote — reusing it saves enormous amounts of embodied energy and raw materials.

Our Reconditioning Process

Cage Inspection

Every cage is inspected for structural damage, corrosion, and deformation. Cages that don't meet our standards are recycled, not resold.

Cage Restoration

Dents are straightened, surface rust is treated, and welds are verified. The cage is cleaned and optionally re-galvanized.

New Bottle Installation

A virgin HDPE bottle is blow-molded and fitted into the cage. The bottle meets UN/DOT standards and is food-grade by default.

Component Replacement

All valves, gaskets, caps, and seals are replaced with new components. Nothing from the old bottle is reused.

Pressure Testing

Each reconditioned unit undergoes hydrostatic pressure testing to verify there are no leaks and the bottle-to-cage fit is secure.

Final Certification

Units are labeled with reconditioning date, capacity rating, and UN certification where applicable. Full traceability documentation available.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is replaced during reconditioning?
The HDPE inner bottle is brand new, and all valves, gaskets, caps, and seals are replaced with new components. Only the cleaned, inspected, and restored steel cage is reused.
How much can I save versus buying new?
Reconditioned IBC tanks typically cost 40 to 60% less than a comparable new unit, because the durable steel cage is reused rather than re-manufactured.
Are reconditioned IBC totes food grade?
Yes. The new HDPE bottles are food-grade by default and meet UN/DOT standards, making reconditioned units suitable for many food, beverage, and agricultural applications.
Are reconditioned tanks tested before sale?
Every unit undergoes hydrostatic pressure testing to confirm there are no leaks and the bottle-to-cage fit is secure. Units are then labeled with the reconditioning date and capacity rating.
Is reconditioned more environmentally friendly than new?
Yes. Reusing the steel cage, the most energy-intensive component, saves roughly 85 lbs of plastic per unit and significant embodied energy compared to a fully new tote.
